  71. |       it will be for your own personal use (and is not to be               |

  80. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
  81.  
  82. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  83. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  84. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  85. differ on details -- some request registration while others
  86. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  87. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  88. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  90. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  91. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  92. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  93. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  94. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  95. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  96. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  97. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  98. specific group. For example, some authors require written
  99. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  100. Shareware.

  102. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  103. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  104. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  105. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
  106. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
  107. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  108. product, you don't pay for it.

  113. "PixFolio is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all
  114. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,

  116. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
  117. quential, which may result from the use of PixFolio."

  119. PixFolio is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  120. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  121. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  122. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  123. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  124. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  125.

  127. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  128. useful and find that you are using PixFolio and continue to use
  129. PixFolio after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-
  130. istration payment of $35.00 to Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software).
  131. The $35.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any
  132. one computer at any one time.  You must treat this software just
  133. like a book.  An example is that this software may be used by any
  134. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
  135. location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
  136. being used at one location while it's being used at another.
  137. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the
  138. same time.

  140. Commercial users of PixFolio must register and pay for their
  141. copies of PixFolio within 30 days of first use or their license
  142. is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be made by con-
  143. tacting Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software).

  145. Anyone distributing PixFolio for any kind of renumeration must
  146. first contact Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software) at the address above
  147. for authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted
  148. to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines
  149. for shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering
  150. PixFolio immediately (However Allen C. Kempe (dba ACK Software) must
  151. still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with
  152. the latest version of PixFolio.).

  154. You are encouraged to pass a copy of PixFolio along to your
  155. friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register their
  156. copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered users
  157. will receive a copy of the latest version of the PixFolio
